Important dates and resources for Checkout Manager migration
Friday, June 6th, 2008
Merchants still using older versions of checkout (also called “Order Forms”) should have received a first notice several weeks ago about the upcoming shut down of these systems, and necessary migration to Checkout Manager by August 15, 2008.
We’d like you to take note of an important date: June 30. Until this date, you may continue to test and enable Checkout Manager, with the option to roll back to older versions of checkout should you encounter any problems. After June 30, the rollback option will go away. We strongly recommend that you test and enable your new checkout pages before this date. A reminder about this date will soon be sent to merchants who have not yet moved to Checkout Manager, and will also be posted in Store Manager and to our migration information page.
Some other important dates to make note of:
-
August 15: All stores still using older versions of checkout must move to Checkout Manager by this date. Stores that have not moved will be automatically migrated, but Order Settings will not be published. Your store’s Order Settings must be published before the old checkout servers are shut down on September 1.
-
September 1: Old checkout servers will be shut down on this date. As noted above, if your store was affected by this migration, your Order Settings must be published by this date. If Order Settings are not published, your new checkout pages will not be generated and pushed out, and your checkout will no longer function.
Help, webinars, and other migration resources
There are a few resources available to help you with this migration. Since Checkout Manager has been out of beta release and generally available to merchants for over two years, we have an extensive migration help section in our online help center. You can also consult Checkout Manager help for assistance with customizing your checkout pages.
In addition to this help, we’ll soon be holding webinars that will go into more detail about how you can test and migrate to Checkout Manager. Webinar information will be posted here to the blog, as well as to our migration information page, and notices will be sent by email.
Most merchants should be able to migrate without encountering problems or needing extra support. Merchants who cannot meet the migration deadline on their own, or who would like additional checkout customization, may wish to work with a Yahoo! Store Developer offering a Checkout Manager migration package.
Why we’re doing this
Checkout Manager offers superior customization capabilities to those of Order Forms. We strongly believe these features will allow you to better optimize your checkout pages, and increase overall site conversion. A list of Checkout Manager’s benefits can be found on our migration information page. Also, by standardizing onto one version of checkout, we’ll be able to develop new features you’ve requested in less time.
So, in summary:
- Testing and enabling Checkout Manager before June 30 is strongly recommended.
- August 15 is the deadline for self-migration to Checkout Manager. After that, your store will be automatically migrated, but your Order Settings will not be published.
- Old checkout servers will be shut down for good on September 1. Publish your Order Settings by this date, or customers will not be able to place orders from your store.
- Check back to the blog and to the migration information page for webinar details and migration updates.
