New Feature: Saved Cards for Customer Registration
Monday, August 29th, 2011
A few weeks back, a pre-announcement about the new Saved Cards feature for Customer Registration appeared here on the Yahoo! Store Blog. I’m happy to let you know that as of early this morning, Saved Cards is available for all Merchant Solutions and Yahoo! Store accounts.
In order to use Saved Cards, our Customer Registration system must be enabled for your store.
Note: If you have not published your Order Settings since the end of June, you may see an active Publish Order Settings link in Store Manager due to work performed in order to release Saved Cards. Unless you are enabling Saved Cards or have made your own updates, no changes requiring an Order Settings publish have been made.
What is Saved Cards?
Saved Cards is designed to make shopping from your store faster, easier, and more convenient than ever, which in turn can help to encourage more sales. By giving registered customers the ability to save their credit and debit card information to their account, along with the billing address associated with each card, Saved Cards lets customers breeze through checkout without having to re-enter their payment and billing address information every time they shop at your store.
Customers can save card and billing address information to their account following a purchase, or can add, edit, and delete card and billing address information using their My Account page. The first time a customer who is signed into their account makes a purchase from your store after Saved Cards is enabled, they will see a message on the order confirmation page that looks like this:

When the customer clicks the "Trust This Computer" button, the computer they are using will be designated as a trusted computer that can use saved card information, and the card and billing address they’ve just used to make their purchase will be saved.
When Saved Cards is enabled and a registered customer accesses their My Account page, they will see a Saved Cards tab. Here, the customer can add new credit and debit cards (up to a maximum of 10 cards in total), edit card information, and delete cards already saved to their account.

After saving card information to their account, the next time the customer shops from your store (when signed into their account and using a trusted computer), they need only select the saved card as their payment method during checkout to pay for their order. If the customer is using a different card to make a purchase, they will be given the option to save this card to their account once their order has been placed.

How is saved card information protected?
Saved card information is protected by a number of security features. Yahoo! uses 256-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption and has a PCI-compliant platform, and customers must explicitly allow cards to be saved and used on individual computers. To help protect against fraudulent use of card information, a customer will be required to re-enter their saved card information when:
- The customer is using a computer they have not designated as a trusted computer that is able to use saved card information.
- The customer is shipping to an address they have not previously shipped to.
- The customer has ordered downloadable goods.
- Checkout requires a customer to enter the CVV number for their card, and the customer has exceeded the maximum number of CVV entry attempts.
How do I enable Saved Cards?
When you next go into the Global Settings section of Checkout & Registration Manager, click on the Customer Registration tab. You will see a new Saved Cards option that looks like this:

If you already have Customer Registration enabled for your store, you can simply click the "Enable" radio button, preview your changes, and publish your Order Settings to start using Saved Cards. If you’re not yet using Customer Registration, you must enable it in order to also enable Saved Cards. Learn more about enabling Saved Cards for your store.
Note: If you’re using custom fields in checkout, enabling Saved Cards may change the location of these fields. Please also note that when Saved Cards is enabled, the payment method section will appear above the billing address section in checkout. (When not enabled, the billing address section appears above the payment method section.) Previewing your changes before publishing is recommended.

We here at Yahoo! Small Business know that many of you have been looking forward to this feature, and we thank you for your patience while we worked to make it a reality. We have a few more features planned as we gear up for the holiday shopping season, so please stay tuned in the weeks ahead for more feature release announcements.

Great, now that you done a major upgrade for the 10% of Yahoo store owners that actually need a feature like this, how about adding features we can ALL use, need tips on what to add, just ask the users.
Since most have trust problems with online stores, and upwards of 70 – 90 percent would not want their cards saved anyway, I can not see this as a feature targeted toward the majority of Yahoo store users, maybe i am wrong?
One suggestion, how about some new templates that don’t look like their from the 80′s, not everybody who opens a store want’s to pay an additional 3000.00 – 4000.00 dollars to have a custom template. At the very least, you could make it easier to customize. The product options feature is one place you have everyone beat. I applaud every time i open my control panel and see the notifications of upgrades, they seem to be coming regularly nowadays.
Hello Mike, how about making Yahoo store the envy of all others.
